The cost of international freight transport

International freight transport price is not a fixed value: it is always calculated individually for a specific cargo and route. The final cost of cargo delivery is affected by several key factors.

• Mode of transport. Air freight is the fastest but the most expensive option. Sea freight is considerably cheaper for large volumes but requires more time. Rail and road transport occupy an intermediate position in terms of price and timing.
• Route and distance. Cargo delivery from China, the USA or the UAE will have a different base freight rate depending on the distance, the availability of a direct connection and transshipment ports.
• Volume and weight of the cargo. For sea freight the concept of volumetric weight applies - the rate is calculated by the greater of two values: actual or calculated. For air freight this coefficient is even more significant.
• Type of goods. Dangerous, temperature-controlled or oversized cargo requires special conditions and is priced separately.
• Customs clearance and related costs. Customs clearance of cargo - duty, VAT, excise and broker services - is included in the total cost of international freight transport and is calculated on the basis of the customs value of the goods and their UKTZED (HS code).
